Contents insurance inventory
An insurance home inventory you can hand over
Not insurance advice. Estimates are informational AI-assisted bands, not appraisals. We do not sell insurance or file claims.
Insurers and brokers ask what you owned, what it would cost to replace, and whether you can show a photo or a serial number. They ask after the loss, which is a bad time to start. An insurance home inventory is the list you make while the things are still in the room.
ThingyProof helps you build that list from photos. It does not insure you, advise you, or lodge a claim. The PDF is a packet: rooms, items, bands, thumbnails, and a printed disclaimer. Your policy wording, your sum insured, and your excess are between you and your insurer.

Contents, chattels, personal property
The vocabulary depends on where you live. New Zealand and Australia policies talk about contents, and sometimes chattels, when they mean the movable things in a home: furniture, appliances, electronics, tools, bikes, instruments. UK policies often say contents. US policies often say personal property. ThingyProof does not change its database by country. The PDF is still a list of things with rough replacement bands in US dollars.
A contents list is not a sum insured. The sum insured is the ceiling you chose on the policy. The list is evidence of what sat under it. If the midpoint of our bands adds up to more than your contents sum, that is a conversation for your broker, not a number we will defend. Bands are wide because a photo cannot see a receipt.
We show a low and a high, and the PDF totals the midpoints so you have a single figure to glance at. The total is labelled as a midpoint of informational bands. It is not an appraisal, a settlement, or a guaranteed replacement cost. Condition, age, and local retail prices move the real number. Edit the band if you know the receipt and we do not.
What makes a list useful in a claim
Photos of the room as it was. Close photos of expensive items. Serial numbers and model numbers, especially on appliances, because a claim for "a heat pump" is weaker than a claim for a specific model. Dates, which the PDF prints as the export date and the account email. A spreadsheet you can sort.
ThingyProof stores the JPEG you uploaded, the card, and the export. You should also keep a copy outside the account. Download the CSV to your own drive. Download the data zip once you care about the house. A product can shut down. Yours should not be the only copy that vanishes with it.
Rating plates matter more than stylish wide shots. A plate in focus, with the flash off if it blows out the text, gives the model a chance at the serial. Even then, read it yourself. Vision models drop a character. The card is a draft.
Storms, fires, and ordinary Tuesdays
People look for a contents inventory when a cyclone, flood, or wildfire is already in the forecast. The list is more useful a month earlier, and it is still worth making the night before if that is the time you have. Photograph the rooms you can reach. Export the CSV even if you never buy a plan. Free includes that export.
Do not delay leaving a house because an app asked for another photo. ThingyProof is not an emergency service. It will not tell you whether to evacuate, whether a repair is safe, or whether a policy responds to flood. Those questions belong to civil defence, a licensed tradesperson, and your insurer.
After a loss, give your insurer what they ask for. Some want their own forms. Some want receipts more than photos. The PDF is a head start, not a substitute for their process. We will not contact them for you.
How the PDF is built
You press one button. The worker reads your rooms and items from the database, attaches a limited number of JPEG thumbnails, and writes a PDF. The disclaimer is on the first page and in the footer of every page. There is no option to hide it.
Free accounts get one of those files. Home and Home+ are not capped on PDFs. CSV stays uncapped on every plan so a billing problem never traps the list. If you only remember one thing from this page, remember that: export the CSV to a place you control.
Not insurance advice. ThingyProof estimates and inventories are informational tools only. Replacement values are rough AI-assisted bands, not appraisals or guarantees. We do not sell insurance, file claims, or replace your insurer's requirements. Verify serials, values, and coverage with your insurer or broker. Photos and exports are provided as-is; keep your own backups.
