Centriq alternative
A Centriq alternative that lets you leave with your data
Not insurance advice. Estimates are informational AI-assisted bands, not appraisals. We do not sell insurance or file claims.
Centriq, the consumer app people used for appliance manuals and home inventories, shut down on 31 January 2025. Households that had not exported their manuals, model numbers, and lists lost that library when the service deleted data. The useful lesson is not nostalgia. If a product holds the only copy of what you own, you do not own the record.
ThingyProof is a self-serve web app for that job, narrowed to what you can finish in one sitting. You photograph rooms and rating plates. A vision model reads the pictures into item cards: name, brand, model, serial when it is visible, category, and a rough replacement band. You correct the cards. You download an insurance inventory PDF and a CSV whenever you want, on every plan, including Free for the CSV.
This page is for people searching for a Centriq alternative in 2026. It is an honest description of what ships today, including the gaps.
What people actually used Centriq for
Most Centriq households were not building a museum catalogue. They wanted two things close at hand: the model number off a heat pump, oven, or washer, and a manual when a filter needed changing. Some also kept a contents list for insurance. The app sat on those two jobs for years, which is why the shutdown stung. The manuals and the list lived in someone else's account.
ThingyProof covers the inventory side first, and the manual side as a search handoff rather than a hosted library. You photograph the rating plate. We read make, model, and serial into a card and build a manual search query. One tap opens a web search for that query, and where the brand is obvious we also link the manufacturer's site. We do not host the PDF, scrape manual sites, or promise the search result is the right document. You still have to look.
Export is the product, not a setting
CSV download is available on Free and paid plans with no extra charge and no expiry. The file is a normal spreadsheet: one row per item, with room, brand, model, serial, category, the low and high ends of the value band, confidence, and the manual search text. Open it in any spreadsheet. Email it to yourself. Put it in a folder that is not this website.
The insurance PDF is the other copy. It lists rooms and items, shows a handful of photo thumbnails, totals the midpoints of the bands, and prints a disclaimer on the first page and in the footer. Free includes one PDF. Home includes as many as you need. Hitting the free PDF cap does not lock the CSV. That split is deliberate.
There is also a full account zip: JSON, CSV, and the JPEGs. Account deletion removes the database rows and the stored photos. Export before you delete. We will not email a backup later, because there is no support inbox and we do not keep a shadow copy.
What ThingyProof does not do yet
We cannot import a Centriq CSV. If you exported from Centriq before the shutdown, keep that file. You can re-type important rows or photograph the gear again. An importer is out of scope for this release on purpose.
We do not ship a manual PDF library, maintenance reminder emails, repair diagnosis, solar or power-bill tools, or a chat bot. Home+ exists as a Stripe price so the shelf is ready, and those extras stay switched off. Paying for Home+ today buys the same inventory tools as Home. The pricing page says that in the same words.
We do not sell insurance, compare policies, or lodge claims. Replacement figures are bands the model suggests from a photograph. They are not a valuation and not a sum insured. If a card says a fridge is worth a range, your insurer may disagree, and your insurer is the one who pays.
How to start from an empty house
Create a free account with an email magic link. Google sign-in appears when it has been configured. You get one home. Add the room you would hate to list from memory, usually the kitchen or the living room. Snap a wide photo, then the appliances. Scan rating plates separately so the serial is in frame and in focus.
Free is enough to see the whole path: 1 room, 10 snaps, 1 PDF, CSV whenever you want. No card. Home is NZ$6.99 a month or NZ$49 a year if you want more rooms and PDFs. Cancel in the Stripe Customer Portal. There is no human support queue. The help page answers upload, PDF, billing, export, deletion, bad reads, free limits, and privacy.
